How to create and run a poll or quiz

With Polls in Conference Manager, you can create interactive voting or quizzes for your event.

First, the poll or quiz must be created in Conference Manager when you are logged in with your user profile. Afterwards, you can create an external login that you can use to run the poll or quiz during the event.

Set up a poll or quiz

  • Go to Questionnaire and Polls.
  • Click Create poll.
  • Enter the name of the poll and click Save.

You will then be taken to the poll setup.

To define whether the setup should be used as a poll or a quiz:

  • Click Edit in the top right corner.
  • Edit the title.
  • Add a description.
  • Choose layout colours.
  • Define whether the setup should be used as a poll or a quiz.
    • If Points are disabled, the setup can be used as a poll.
    • If Points are enabled, the setup can be used as a quiz.

When Points are enabled, you can also choose whether to use a Winner code. The winner code is shown to the participant who wins, so they can provide it to the organiser as proof. This code will also be visible to you.

  • Click Save when you are done.

Add questions

  • Click Add question in the overview.
  • Enter the question at the top.
  • Under Response options, enter the answer options.

You can also:

  • Add an image.
  • Enable a time limit.
  • Add more answer options.

If you are creating a quiz:

  • Tick Correct answer next to the relevant answer option.
  • Click Save.

The question will now appear in the overview. Repeat the process if you want to add more questions.

You can also edit the Entry screen and Ending screen if needed.

Create an external login

To be able to run the poll or quiz during the event, you need to create an external login. This is your access point to control and run the poll or quiz.

  • Go to The event and External login.

If the external login page is not yet enabled on your website, the system will show a message telling you this. Click here to learn how to activate the page.

Once this has been done:

  • Return to The event and External login.
  • Click Create new.
  • Choose to create the login manually.
  • Create a Username.
  • Fill in the personal information.
  • Create a Profile name for this set of access rights.

The profile will be saved and can easily be used again in the future.

Under access rights:

  • Select Polls as the information that should be accessible.
  • Choose the specific poll that the login should have access to.
  • Click Save.

Once you have created the external login, it will appear in the overview.

To access the login details:

  • Check the box next to the external user.
  • Click Send login.
  • Enter a subject and message.

The system requires you to enter a subject and message before the email can be sent. Since you are sending it to yourself, it is not important what you write.

Your login details will automatically appear in the email you receive.

Run the poll or quiz with the external login

  • Open the external login page using the link shown in the email.
  • Log in with the external login details.

The first time you log in:

  • Enter the temporary password shown in the email.
  • Create a new password.
  • Set up two-factor authentication using an authenticator app.

Click here to learn how to set up two-factor authentication.

Once logged in:

  • Go to Polls.
  • Find the relevant poll or quiz.
  • Click Start.

The poll or quiz can now be shown on a big screen during the event, so participants can follow along.

Participants can join by opening the CM Events app or going to cmevents.dk and entering the four-digit key shown on the big screen.

They answer by selecting the symbol on their device that matches the option shown on the big screen.

During the poll or quiz, results will be shown on the big screen.

If Points are enabled, the winner will be shown at the end.

If Winner code is enabled, the winner will see the code on their device.
