Check image dimensions (px), file sizes (KB/MB) and formats. Optimise or convert images before adding them to Conference Manager.
Images are processed locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to CM Academy or stored on our servers. If you check an image from a URL, your browser loads it directly from the website where it is hosted.
New to images? Learn the basics
Dimensions (px) describe an image’s width and height in pixels, for example 1920 × 1080 px. The right dimensions depend on where the image is used. In the Website Designer, background images in headers and sections need the exact width for your theme: an image that is too narrow or too wide may not be shown as intended. Images in columns line up best at the recommended width, based on the default column widths. If you have changed the column widths, use the Custom width option instead. In the Email editor, the suggested widths are guidelines.
File size (KB or MB) is how much space the file takes up. 1 MB is 1,024 KB. Even an image with the right dimensions can have a large file size. On websites, large files load more slowly, especially on mobile. In emails, they can slow down sending and add to the size of the email, which can cause some inboxes to reject it.
Format is the file type, shown at the end of the file name, for example .jpg or .png. Use JPG for photos and PNG for logos, icons, screenshots and anything that needs a transparent background.
Optimising makes the file smaller. The tool can make the image narrower or save it in another format. Smaller files can look slightly less sharp, so always compare before and after.
Advanced settings are optional. JPG quality sets how much a JPG is compressed: a lower number gives a smaller file but less detail. PNG colours reduces the number of colours in a PNG, which makes logos and graphics much smaller. 256 colours usually looks the same as the original. Choose All colours if you notice a difference, for example in soft gradients.
How to use the tool
- Choose Website Designer or Email editor.
- Add your images. You can now see the file size, dimensions and format of each image.
- Select where each image will be placed to see the required or suggested width.
- If an image has the wrong width, a large file size or the wrong format, click Optimise / convert and compare the result with the original.
- Download the optimised image, or all images as a ZIP, and upload it to Conference Manager.
Always check how your optimised images look in your website or email before publishing or sending.
Image optimisation may affect visual quality, and results can vary depending on the original file and your browser.
Always preview your optimised or converted images and check how they appear on your website or in your email before publishing or sending.
If you’re not satisfied with the result, try adjusting the optimisation settings or use a dedicated image editing tool such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop or Squoosh.
JPG, PNG, GIF and BMP can be uploaded to Conference Manager Media Library. For smaller files and broad compatibility, we recommend JPG for photographs and PNG for graphics requiring transparency. GIF is supported, including animated GIFs, but animated GIFs are often very large files. Use them sparingly.GIF is supported, but animated GIFs are often very large files and may behave differently in different email clients. Use them sparingly. BMP is accepted but is often much larger than JPG or PNG.
Large image files make your website load more slowly, especially on mobile devices and slower connections. Keep the file size as small as possible without a visible loss of quality. For header and section backgrounds, the width must still match the exact width for your theme.
Large images make your email slower to load and can delay delivery. Some inboxes may reject emails with very large images. Scaling an image down in the editor does not reduce its file size, so upload it at the size it will be displayed.
- JPG: photos and images with many colours or soft gradients, such as speaker photos, venue images and backgrounds. Gives the smallest files. Does not support transparency.
- PNG: logos, icons, screenshots and graphics with text, sharp edges or few colours, and any image that needs a transparent background. Keeps edges and text sharp, but photos saved as PNG are often much larger.
Automatic in the converter chooses based on transparency and the number of colours in the image. It does not recognise what the image shows, so always preview the result and choose JPG or PNG yourself if needed.
WebP and SVG cannot be uploaded to Media Library. Use the converter above to create a JPG or PNG instead.
- Image: Uses Conference Manager’s Media Library, which accepts JPG, PNG, GIF and BMP.
- Image (URL): Uses an image hosted elsewhere, added via its web address. SVG and WebP may look correct in the editor but might not display for all recipients, for example in Outlook.
For the best compatibility across email clients, use JPG or PNG.
